Yes - to a degree, the BEC is likely to be involved, but not in a high mass particle like the deuteron. There are dozens of papers like this http://www.nature.com/nmat/journal/v13/n3/full/nmat3825.html It would appear that the limit for BEC at high temperature is about a few thousand times less than the mass of the deuteron.
