Interesting report about the poachers.
I grew up in the Okanogan area and learned to fly fish on such great waters
as Blue Lake, Chopaka and Aeneas. It seems that no matter how many quality
catch and kill lakes there are near by, a certain percent of the local
population view special waters as a violation of their rights and therefor
they are justified in "killing some of those big fish so those damn snobby
fly fisherman don't get em all."
Up where I am from , resentment of west siders is strong anyway and I think
many of my less educated brethern from that area think only people from the
west side of the state fish these waters. If they opened their eyes they
would realize that the Okanogan Fly Club does most of the leg work to get
these waters listed with special regs and then do the yearly clean up and
weed control. So I guess my point is that no matter the level of
enforcement, a certain number of locals will always fly the bird in the face
of special regulations. Nice to see a few of them get caught though:0)
