Fished the Yakima Sunday, floating from Red's down to Rosa.  The water was a little cloudy, about 18 inches visibility.  Got on the river about 9:30 am and fished until 7:00 pm.  A beautiful day, sunny, no wind, (no fish).  There must have been a gazillion small smolts in the river.  We tried our best to avoid them.  The only possibility was a large fly like a number 8 Stimulator, something big enough so they couldn't inhale it.  The two of us fished pretty hard and caught nothing but 4 - 5 inch fish.  In some cases you literally could not escape them.  Perhaps Salmon smolts, not sure, some had a bright orange half circle by the eye.

When we took out at Rosa, the smolts looked like popcorn popping through the surface.  They were everywhere, probably 3 - 5 in the air an any one point in time.
