As others have mentioned, we need to know how you're connecting to the internet - if you are connecting via ADSL, John's point might be appropriate.


However to me it sounds like you could be using a dial-up modem, in which case you will need to follow the instructions below:

Open system preferences
Select the "network" control panel
In the "Show" menu, select "internal modem" or whatever modem you're using
Select the "PPP" tab
Click "PPP options"
Uncheck "Prompt every xx minutes to maintain connection", "disconnect if idle for 10 minutes ", "disconnect when user logs out"
Press OK.
