The eMac in question is linked through a 5 port switch to another eMac connected to the net by an ethernet DSL-300 modem. The main eMac doesn't have a connection prompt, but the linked one does get the prompt. It is not a great problem, but one I could do without.


Have you tried deactivating the Modem Interface in the Network Preference Panel on the problem eMac? (System Preferences > Network > Show: > Network Port Configuartions > Internal Modem)
