I think Ronda's suggestion will probably work.
If not, you can try another approach which is to run a
permissions repair.
If that still doesn't work.
download the combo update from apple.
http://wsidecar.apple.com/cgi-bin/nph-reg3rdpty1.pl/
product=09364&cat=1&platform=osx&method=sa/MacOSXUpdateCombo10.4.4.dmg
(120 megs)
and remove the reciepts from previous updates related
to the OS in /Library/reciepts.
Install the combo update and run a permissions repair.
I've found that some problems can be fixed, simply by
installing a combo update over the current system and
running a permissions repair. I noticed a problem
with airport that this seemed to fix in 10.4.2

Like Houston I have a problem :-( I have a

working, maybe
because I HAVE 10.4.4 In the place of the usual
airport bars I
have a tree with greyed out bars behind. Can
someone make any

Hi Mac,
Have you tried restarting your Router & Airport
Express?
Check is the AirPort port selected. Open System
Preferences, then
click Network. Choose Active Network Ports from the
Show pop-up menu,
then make sure the AirPort checkbox is selected.
Also Open Internet Connect and make sure AirPort is
turned on.
Restart your base station by unplugging and plugging
in, then try the
connection again.

If you are still unable to connect go to :
Applications > Utilities > Airport Admin
Utility
Highlight your Network
Click 'Configure'
Click 'Restart'
Cheers,
Ronni
