Hi all

Back in mid 2000 I brought a Power Mac G4 (AGP Graphic) model (which can be fitted with an Airport card). Been using it with an external ADSL model using the ethernet port. Early this year we got our son a G4 iBook (as he began university) equipped with an Airport Extreme card in it. We also got an Airport Exteme Basestation so he could go wireless.

Problem (not having enough knowledge in these matters). We have one ethernet cable going from the modem to the Power Mac. In order for him to use the internet we have to take out the ethernet cable from the Power Mac G4 and plug it into the Extreme Basestation. So only one computer can be connected to the net at any one time. I thought the easiest solution would be to get an Airport card for my old Power Mac G4. If I go this way, do I need an earlier model Airport card or can I instead use the more recent Airport Extreme card? I was thinking of getting the Airport Extreme card but then saw the following System requirement for the Airport Express card on the Apple web site. It says

"System Requirements:
• The AirPort Extreme Card can be installed only in computers that are AirPort Extreme ready. AirPort Extreme Cards cannot be used in AirPort-ready computers with an AirPort Card slot.

Since I have an older Power Mac G4 (which is Airport-ready) does this mean I can only put an older Airport card into it and not the newer Airport Extreme cards? And if the old Power Mac G4 can only take an old Airport card would this old card work with the Airport Extreme Basestation.

Regards Joe
