That may be fine if the printer is not used regularly but each time you power on the ink is recharged and that is expensive. I have two Epsons, a Stylus Photo 720 for hack work and regular document printing which is used daily, and an A3+ Stylus Photo 1290 Silver used for artwork which is used regularly but not necessarily daily. They are both powered on 24/7 like my G5 which Sleeps when not in use and I only Shut Down and power off if going away. The SP1290 needs an occasional clean to ensure perfect prints. The two printers have operated like this for at least four years from memory. The only times I have needed serious cleaning (more than one cycle) is when starting up after longer absences (more than a week). I use only genuine Epson inks!! Purchase usually from City Software and I bulk orders out to minimise postage component.
That's my sixpennyworth!

Just a piece of info I picked up. I cannot vouch for it.

You should turn off your Epson printer each night or when you are not using it because, so the information says, the inkjets remain exposed when it is on and this causes evaporation and eventual clogging. By turning it off the
jets are closed off and prevents this.

I have no technical knowledge of this and cannot defend it but I read it on the internet somewhere. For "internet" read "shared ignorance". But there you are. Since then, I turn it off that and my RX 650 has had no problems.
Could be just good luck!

Hi Roger,

Epson printers are excellent whilst they work, but be aware that if the jets gets clogged and cannot be cleaned it will cost you a replacement printer!! I have had 3 Epson printers now and all of them totally useless even after having taken them to the service people. The advice was buy a new printer as the repairs will cost you more! My last Epson was not even 3 years old and still looks new. Besides I had a stock of very, very expensive inks which I
had to throw away.

Do not know how the Canons or HP fare. But personally I have gone to laser
printers instead.
