Yes, the TTomTomis a great thing. I have been using one (a 300) since they first came to market in Australia about 2 and a half years ago (paying $900 or so for the pprivilegeof being a early adopter...)
The software updates (the platform is Linux based), are indeed free but the map updates certainly are not unless you get some special deal. I am afraid you haven't got the latest AU maps Lloyd as the BBusseltonBypass was one of the additions I noticed straight away after the last update (I live in the SW). The TT updates are nevertheless cheaper than for inbuilt systems (BMW charge $350 which seems the going rate). Every little bbackroadis out there and no matter where you are, it is always easy to find your way back out again. With destinations, it can be a bit of a pain finding some little bbackroadunless you know the trick of entering for a "Town" as "South Coast" and others like "Margaret River Wine District" but this is a WWhereismap data issue as I understand. Extra functionality can be added by installing extra programs on your memory card. Some are here: http://www.webazar.org/tomtom/plugins.php?lang=uukbut there are others out there... Have fun !
