Hi Rod,

I have a TomTom One and can download the upgrades to the maps for FREE.

New maps cost 49 Euros. I have been in Europe for 5 weeks recently and
downloaded the Eastern Europe and France maps. 49 Euros each. I upgraded the
French one just before I left, at no cost.

Whatever the cost the TomTom is worth 10000 times more! It found me parking
areas in Strasbourg, service stations, ATMs, on and off highways, into and
out of big cities that have hopeless traffic systems etc.

Carry it in your pocket and find addresses in strange cities. The voice
instructs you where to go. Set it to walking speed. The battery lasts about
6 hours. And if you make your hotel the "home", no matter where you wander
to in a strange city, just press Home and it instructs you. "At the first
opportunity, turn around and in 50 metres take the turn to the left."

I found myself saying "Thank you Jane" over and over again!! :-))

You can fit about 5 maps on the one card: Oz, UK, France, Sth Africa and
Europe on one 2 Gig card.

Absolutely the best invention for any traveller!!

For some reason the by-pass road at Busselton is not visible and you see
yourself travelling through the bush! But more recent road changes are
there!

If you buy a car with one in-built there may be trouble up-grading the maps
unless you can connect it to the internet yourself. I believe some car
dealers charge heavily for upgrading them for you.
