Given the move away from optical drives in laptops (eg Macbook air) you can
even have both options ­ SSD for speed and HD for
capacity/redundancy/whatever using something like this:

I must admit, with online downloads/upgrades, the only time I use the
optical drive nowadays is to rip CDs to iTunes ­ and I generally use the
desktop for that.
