Hi Ronni

A branch off the main post, but may be significant - - -

I came across an article I do not fully understand that incidentally argues
that an Apple security update (in 2017?) uses the MAC address of an ethernet
port for App Store verification of users Apple ID. My iMac ethernet port was
killed during a thunderstorm a few years ago. Perhaps High Sierra is looking
for the ethernet address in the final stages of downloading macOS to verify the
user - and consequently failing. Have you heard of such a thing?

This is the link to the article:
https://eclecticlight.co/2017/10/06/losing-your-ethernet-port-unverifies-your-mac/

<https://eclecticlight.co/2017/10/06/losing-your-ethernet-port-unverifies-your-mac/>

My iMac still shows ethernet as one Network option, and it has a MAC address.
Is this chasing wild geese or a red herring, or a possible cause of the
downloads failing?

Cheers
Alan
