I don't know why you wouldn't want to use the latest stuff from MS.
They are the ones that require it for the compiler output, so that 
isn't your fault.

It would be like using a older version of physfs/openAL/SDL, 
instead of the most updated (and bugfixed) codebase/libs/dlls.
If someone don't want to update, then that is their problem, not 
yours, or the other WZ developers.
With all the other project/developers using the newest compilers 
from MS, this should be a moot point.
