"people" in this case is only developers, since the trunk is not intended to 
be used by anyone else.
And the best remember for the devs to fix a problem is to present an obvious 
bug, imo.
The terrain renderer will sooner or later be replaced, so the issue will 
hopefully fix itself.
For the rest: When GL lighting is fully used (planed for 2.1?) this will be 
fixed. Till then we leave it as is, since I think the most important for this 
is to experiment with the lighting as it will be.
