Well, first, the <b> tag is for bold. And it is not necessarily deprecated.
The <br> is the line break, and it is NOT deprecated. Not sure if there is a list on w3c of depracated tags or not. I was *sure* I'd remember it, too, because I use the <b> tag a lot as I mostly don't like the double spaces produced by <p>.
