Wow!   So if my work was US domiciled I would already be into copyright fees
approaching $10,000.   Almost the same level of protection in the UK costs
nothing.   If you want a dated guarantee of the works origin you send a
registered letter of it to yourself (about $2 a time).

And so long as you never open it it is proof. Er...

It would be opened in a court hearing the issue of course!

I print a copy of anything important enough and get someone to witness it. That provides the date and the fact that an independent person has seen it. So I even save on the postage.
