As a professional tech writer myself, I can tell you that the last
line in the joke should go:
None: (deep breath)
They were handed the final working version of the product a week
before it was due to be shipped out (and are expected to finish
writing the manual in time to have it printed with a 2-6 week lead
time),
found the broken lightbulb-changing command,
reported it to QA,
then to the engineer who built it,
then to the ngineer's manager,
then to writer's manager,
and then were told to "Document around it" (meaning, instead of
describing how it should work, or simply saying that it's broken,
tapdance around the topic like a congressman at a house ethics
committee hearing).
