Three cheers for the technical staff that pulled off the switch while
keeping management clueless.
On the pathetic side, I sat in on an in-house presentation where the
manager explaining the virtures of his project claimed his FoxPro
application (currently being demo-ed) was running on a Unix server. In
truth, it was a stand alone PC that had no network card or modem!
There was another incident out of Sacramento, CA where a sales pitch to
a CalTrans audiance displayed the differences between a Pentium and a
Mac G3. As I recall the highpoints, the Pentium 233 was configured with
Win95 and M$ Office and the Mac G3 had the same software running under
Insignia SoftWindows emulation. When the audience was querried about
which was the "real" Win95 and which was the imposter, everyone selected
the Mac G3 running Win95 and Office as the "real" thing! The G3 was
running in an "encumbered" mode in that it had 7 Quicktime videos
running in the background.
IT relly seems as there are better technical solutions available!
