I guess this is one where I disagree.
I was never enamored of 'push' -- but 'portal' sites make sense. In a way,
they are like publications.
Funny- there is a thread going on Seattle Webgrrls RE portals -- who uses
'em and why. Interesting reading.
I use Yahoo and Infoseek -- then AltaVista -- then Excite. I also use The
Mining Co. for 'subjects'... for example, when I decided to get serious
about buying a motorcycle, I went to TMC .. found the cycles site -- and
used it to find info. Made a LOT more sense than Yahoo for getting started.
Heck, using those links, I ordered my helmet and saved $100 over the price
here in Seattle ($425 v $327 -- and shipping was only slightly more $ than
tax would have been).

The only way they will scale is by tying them to databases, I guess ....
but that's what they do anyway!
