I recall that the link to that page said it was using java. It didn't crash my
browser. I don't think the java is necessarily to blame but I do find it wrong that
if a person's computer should crash - there must be some other way to handle
it. Your Shockwave example is a good example of a better way.

I do not believe there is really any filter that exists for all browsers/platforms. I
still get error messages from javascript sites (in 4.0 netscape or ie). I think the
filter is an illusion.

No, you are reading far too much into what I am saying.
I say that Aunt Sally has no right to cry or complain if she ignorantly surfs the
web. Certainly she has the right to surf. Just don't cry and complain about
getting runover on the autobahn.
The first page Aunt Sally should go to is the one which relates using a
computer to using a car.
The problem, of course, is that using computers is easy and automatic. Just
turn the key on and where do you want to go today?
The last thing I want to see is that we move the web along according to the
slowest links.
