We've just taken on a new Web design project, and I've promised to help the
marketing director dream up ways to promote the site. Initially, funds for
paid advertising such as banners and/or magazine ads are limited, so we'd
like to milk the Internet in other ways as much as possible. I would sure
appreciate any thoughts or suggestions you might have.
The Web site is for a new type of DVD based interactive movie. More than a
video game, it's a full length psychological thriller that's interactive.
The user will determine the flow of the plot by answering questions that
are posed to the viewer. These questions are in the form of what's called a
Thematic Apperception Test. The story is narrated by an actor whose
character is a psychiatrist. At the end of the story, the user receives a
psychological evaluation based on how the user answered questions along the
way. It is being published on DVD for PCs and Macs plus DVD video disk, and
will be the first interactive TV movie ever produced. The publishers were
formerly with Trilobyte Software and were involved with producing Seventh
Guest.
The DVD should appeal to a broader audience than just gamers. There are,
for instance, several hundred thousand people who enjoy taking Thematic
Apperception Tests online. They are one audience we'd like to target, but
how? Another audience would be mental health professionals. We'd also like
to reach a broad audience of anyone who might rent a DVD movie.
