Nice post, Peter. Gets the brain working a bit. 

I've always thought of the home/index page as a book cover myself, but
that's because I'm addicted to reading. I grew up hanging out in the
library -- that was my idea of an exciting time back in high school <wink>.  

BTW, from talking to my friend Jane Fancher (4 sci-fi books published to
date, 2 more due out soon) I know that covers aren't usually designed until
the book has been written and is ready to be printed. And that the designer
of the cover sometimes doesn't read the book, just reads an overview/summary.
