Back in the pre-digital world in the early '70s, we used to buy rub-down
transfer type of "lorem ipsum" in various typestyles and sizes to use as
greeking on comps. We also used the term greeking loosely to refer to type
roughed in on a marker layout with either straight or squiggly lines.
I also used to do freelance work for a Palo Alto ad agency in the
pre-digital early '90s. Their copywriter had written a really funny passage
of text to use instead of "lorem ipsum." They had had it typeset in lots of
styles and sizes, then photocopied and pasted it down on their marker
comps. I've always wished I'd saved a copy of their greeking text because
it was so funny and well-written.
