Our new whitewater kayaks arrived yesterday. We got them in trade for the
Web site I designed for Endless River Adventures, the whitewater school
that my son teaches for:

Dave posted a collage of photos of us on Emigrant Lake to show off to his
family. We're both shown in what was intended to be Dave's boat. However,
this boat fits me better and the one that was intended for me fits Dave
better, so we're going to swap.
Naturally, after a stretch of severe hot weather, our boats arrived just as
cool, windy early fall weather set in. So, we may not get much use out of
our new equipment this season. Nonetheless, since teaching kayaking and
canoeing was an important part of my life throughout the '80s, it feels
great to get back "behind the wheel."
Dave was a little nervous at first, but enjoyed it enough that he wants to
go back to the lake again today. Until yesterday, Dave had assumed that
we'd go to the lake and he'd learn to roll, then we would head straight for
the nearest river. However, after discovering how much there is to learn
before simply being able to get a kayak to go from point A to point B, he
has realized that little Emigrant Lake poses a sufficient challenge for
right now.
