This is an important aspect as well. There are still a lot of IS
managers out there who cut their teeth in the 60s and early 70s. During
that period, we were still dominated by tightly administered Novell and
IBM networks and punchcards, all of which revolved around the whole
cult-like MIS presence -- you couldn't even interact with computers,
olet alone get a computer hooked to a network, without talking to
someone in a dark basement room wearing white robes and surrounded by
four bearded accolytes.
I think a lot of the mentality that users are too stupid to use their
systems still comes from that past . . . (well, that and a dose of "But
they're *my* toys! . . . .").
