McKinley (aka the Magellan Directory) was acquired by Excite in August
1996, and was using a modified version of Excite's database for a while now.
Perhaps it went gently into that good night? Maybe Excite forgot to pay the
Internic bill? Maybe their traffic dwindled to a less than profitable
level? Or maybe the terms of the acquisition was that they'd keep it alive
for 2 more years. I'd call Excite for more info. As one of the first
McKinley employees, I'd be interested to hear of its fate.
