The EXCITE search engine uses the same address and discontinued phone
number in their InterNIC record as well!

Information gave me a working number for Excite. No one in Marketing
seemed to know what was going on, and most of the time, I just got voice
mail.
Eventually, someone in tech support got back to me, and they said, in
effect "WHAT??? OOPS!" He believes that McKinley will be back on line
soon.
That's good news, becaue we have invested a lot of time working on a
comparison report on their web page counts vs AltaVista and others, which
should be out on Monday's update of http://www.mall-net.com/se_report/ .
At present, we list mostly AltaVista's page counts because they tend to be
the highest of the search engines. (It is interesting that several sites
that I run get most of their hits from Yahoo, which our samplings show to
have rather low page counts.)
McKinley was a smaller search engine catering to a rather mainstream
clientele, as opposed to some of the specialty engines that have sometimes
bizarre request profiles.
Excite runs Excite, McKinley, and WebCrawler, each having slightly
different algorithms, producing different page selection profiles.
McKinley and Webcrawler have very similar query profiles.
We sample some of the queries submitted to McKinley, Webcrawler, and
a number of other search engines to produce statistical reports for
clients. Some of those statistical reports are at
