OK as I said you don't need the SW since NT Workstation has
MSPWS (microsoft peer web service) and NT Server has IIS 4.
IIS 4 comes with ASP, a standard to mix HTML and scripting
languages - server side - (VBScript or JScript or optional Perl and
other) in the same file, + some standard interface to DB (Access,
MS SQL and some other).
With PWS you have to install ASP and I suggest also to install
MDAC 1.5 (Microsoft Data Access Component).
Another suggestion is to install Service Pack 3.
Evrything is aviable on MS site for free (once you've paid for NT).
If you need to know more on ASP etc... let me know...
What are you planning to do with your intranet? What kind of
services???
Of course there are other server software for NT... if you need a
list...
But I think that after all it's better to choose "free" MS SW. Think
about DR-DOS and "compatibility" problem with 3rd party
products!!! :-(
I'm obliged to use MS product for parthership/sponsorization
reasons but why do you need to use NT???
Linux is free, it has very powerful scripting tools, it requires LESS
resource and with a P166 could perform really fast compared to an
NT system. There are a lot of free Perl script out there and Perl
offer things that the default NT scripting languages don't offer (eg.
regular expression). It seldom crashes. What else... just ask other
list members who are really more expert than me on unix...
I have to admit that ASP offers a really nice feature... the
possibility to mix in the same file HTML and a server side scripting
language, but I've heard there are scripting languages on unix
plattaform that offer the same feature (there is also an ASP clone).
I don't know how it is easy to connect to a DB with Linux scripting
language but with ASP is very easy... you should ask to other
members...
Ivan, that finally has found a not exotic question to answer, but that
after all enjoy to answer exotic question a lot.
BTW I'll have another person who will share with me the NT
problems :-)
