who will own the ultimate copyright on the pages, and are you expected
to maintain them in the future?

as i recall the arguments, as creator of the pages, the copyright
defaults to you. if this client wants to claim ownership of the
copyright, you'll need to decide whether you're willing to give that
up, and what you want to charge for it, if anything.

if getting the contract means enough to you that you're willing to
hand over the copyright as part of the deal, i'd say they're within
their rights to pull your logo from the page. OTOH, i should think
that means they also accept all future responsibility for the pages
once they take delivery. no calling you up for tweaks and twiddling,
calling it part of the original agreement.

hmm.. how does this sound?

while you're developing the pages, you own the copyright on them.
as a sign of that, you have the right to put your logo at the bottom.
once the client takes final delivery of the pages, they assume
ownership of the copyright, and accept complete reponsibility for the
site from then on. at that point, your logo comes off the pages, and
your work is officially done. if the client wants changes after that,
it's a separate contract, because you no longer have any legal claim to,
or responsibility for, those pages.

assuming this passes review by those members who actually *know*
intellectual property law, it turns your logo into a symbol of
completion. the price of getting your logo off the pages is for them
to make up their minds, pay up, and get off your back. if they want
to waffle, or hold back payment claiming things still need to be done,
they have to put up with your logo.. they can't claim any rights of
ownership if they refuse to take posession.
