What operating system are you running? I've used Java with few
problems under SunOS, Solaris, Linux, and several other Unixes -- a number
of which run on rather ordinary PC hardware, including some old 486 boxes.
If you're running Windows-something, I'd recommend switching to a real
operating system. The benefits will extend far beyond enabling Java.
