I like the idea, Mike (freeing MS source as punishment).

Even better, though, a simpler solution:

        Prevent MS from pre-installing OS on any system.  Period.

If users had to install Win95/98/NT from scratch, read MS manuals, rely
on MS tech suport, set up device drivers, learn plug and play, format
HDs, etc., Linux would seem like a child's toy.  :)  They get a huge
advantage by being allowed to remove that initial hard work from the
user experience.

And, if they tried to cram all their software into the install the
system would choke even more and confuse users worse--this ought to get
them back to "one step at a time" (or they woulnd't even be able to
guess at what stage the install went down).
