Suz, I wonder if you are defining the term "profit" too narrowly. It may
not always mean dollars. Brand exposure comes to mind.
But based on everything I've been reading, the biggest sector that benefits
from the web is not business to consumer transactions, but business to
business.
Example: GE has extended onto the web to streamline their relationships
with their suppliers, saving millions.
But business to consumer transactions can also benefit in the service area.
Fedex using the web to open up parcel tracking data to the consumer,
reducing the staff required to handle phone calls. There are many examples
like this.
