| You are not alone. I like my NT interface. But I really like the
| large screen area (and the easy switch) that is available on windows
| but only as $$$added software. Also, you can log on multiple times
| and switch between sessions.
|
| But remember that you did not just start to know the windows
| interface.
I know, I know... but it is challenging being a "newbie" in all senses of
the word, when it comes to Linux. I never realized how much Win95 hides
what is really happening with the OS... Never realized how much I didn't
know about my own system until I am trying to set up my Diamond Stealth
2500 video card, and the blasted Dial-Up. ;} Looking at the HOW-TOs,
generously provided all over the web, I am saying to myself "Well, I don't
know that... or that... or... and I have to learn that..."
When I was using Win95 and learning it, I didn't realize that I wasn't
really learning all the gory details... they were quaitly hidden from me...
I was simply learning how to run Win95. Never really knew what was
happening when the hourglass icon appeared. Now with Linux, I have to deal
with the gory details. But since I want to strive to be a "generalist",
learning a little about everything, guess I need to learn much more about
Unix. But right now, if I had a flask, I would be belting down a few swigs,
and if I had a silk handkerchief, I would be dabbing my perspiring
forehead. But I do have my cigarettes, and the haze around the room keeps
on growing as I am searching and scanning the Linux Documentation Project
<http://www.nllgg.nl/LDP/>.

| Yes, this is every easy. Forget the X windows scene. You can do all
| this via the command line very easily. Get mySQL installed--also
| easy. All the comman line stuff is easy.
But if I wanted pure command line interface, I would have stayed with
MS-Dos. ;}
Blasted X-Windows... how dare it not imitate Win95, and be a totally
different GUI ;}
...back to sledgehammering my head against this big brick wall.
