Couple of points:

First (and this is a bit of a pet peeve I guess), I vehemently oppose the
use of centred alignment for body text, because it harms readability.
Especially on the Web, where different browsers and resolutions produce
different line breaks, often in places where you really don't want them.

In my browser, for instance (NS 4.05/Win95/800x600), the intro paragraph
displays like this:

is a weekly casual commentary by Eric Rhoads. It is
                        done
out of love of the written word, and to express his
                      thoughts
              on a variety of subjects.

The orphaning of "done" and "thought" on their own lines is clearly
undersirable, and breaks the reader's ability to scan the text easily. In
almost all cases such text should be left (or perhaps right) aligned, but
not centered. Centering should be reserved for titles and other brief
pieces of text that you want to distinguish from body text. IMO anyway.
(Although I realize that zillions of Web pages do center all their text; still
doesn't mean it's right.)

Also, I was surprised that the "archive downloads" are in .DOC format,
rather than generic text. There are two problems here: (1) a user can't
read (and thus decide if he likes) any of the archived columns without
launching MS Word or a similar .DOC-compatible app -- which he may or
may not have; and (2) some users, me included, will not open .DOC files
from the Web period, because I have to virus-scan each one to check for
Word macro viruses. Pain in the butt. Would much prefer to see those
archived columns in plain text format, so I can preview them easily before
deciding to download or not.
