If you want the text centred, why not just put it in a fixed-width table
with align="left" attribute and then centre the table? That way you can set
the width of each line and still keep the readability.
Even so, the text will be differently rendered, depending on the default
font face and size spec'd in a person's browser. And by the different ways
different OSs render text. And even by the difference in the way video
cards display text. For instance, the Matrox Millenium card in my home
workstation renders text differently from the video card in my work
ThinkPad (through a same-size monitor) and differently again from the S3
Trident card in my other desktop. Even though the browsers are set up with
the same defaults.

Agreed. Although I do still have MS Word my prefered word processor these
days is Lotus WordPro 97. Mainly, I guess, because I have to use it at work
so I tend to use it all the time. And WordPro won't open .doc files. Why
not provide people with a choice of either plain text of Acrobat .pdf files?
