Already done. Linux/Unix is vastly superior to Windows 95/NT and pulling
away. It runs on more platforms (in fact, it's hard to find a platform
that it *doesn't* run on), it's scalable, it's robust, it's evolving *fast*,
and it has the largest group of programmers working on it that has
ever worked on anything.
ONly FUD and the lack of silly useless pointy-haired-boss-pleasing
"business applications" has prevented it from sinking Microsoft's ship,
and now both starting to change. Combined with the DoJ's probing
into Microsoft's unethical and monopolistic business practices,
I'd say they're cooked. I certainly hope so: they've done more
to hold back the progress of computing than anyone in history,
all for the sake of greed.
