You're quite right...
Even if an experienced (eheheh) Windows user know where to
look... MS programs are used to change file association without
telling so...
Many graphics SW ask if you want that extension associated with
them (quite reasonable, since many graphics format are part of a
standard while MS .DOC aren't!!!!!)
Even if someone could say "too much information" may become a
pain... well we are dealing with file extension. Why do they hide
them?
My ipothesis they dont want we learn how to use computers and to
acquire the sense of diversity (yes there are other things out there
<g> ... and they want to hide what a mess is their OS
BTW win98 hide its \WINDOWS directory... :-)))))
