Regarding the usefulness/futility of higher education and degrees.

I've been through three distinct world-views (the current buzzword is
paradigms) in my 50 years. The changes were supported by formal
education.

In each instance I was able to get an organized background on a body of
knowledge and immerse myself in the thinking and problem-solving
practices unique to each approach. I got to play without serious
consequences for mistakes. My vision was broadened by different
methodologies and assumptions about what was important in life.

It's interesting to note that assumptions about orientation and ability
of those with certain degrees (MBAs) are acceptable, while the same
process applied to the non-degreed is not.
