Well.. it is in pertinent in the fact the FreeBSD, like Linux, is
a free UNIX. Both can be downloaded off the net for free. (In
fact, before I purchased the FreeBSD CD's, I installed it onto a
system using a single floppy boot disk that I downloaded from
FreeBSD's site. I then used anonymous FTP to install it). Both
Linux and FreeBSD can run the other's programs. So FreeBSD
should be able to run the Linux version of Star Office, etc.

The biggest difference of Linux and FreeBSD (that I have seen) is
that FreeBSD is BSD 4.4 Unix (not a Unix Like OS as Linux has
been called, but an actual derivitive of the "real' Unix code).
I also think FreeBSD is simpler to handle without GUI tools than
Linux (Yes, I DO use Linux, in fact at my 8-5 job I have somehow
become the Linux GURU having installed 5 systems now). I also
have a FreeBSD box here in my office handling my mail server, ftp
server, www server, and even a chat room (all on a P100 with 72MB
of RAM on a 33.6K dialup line - which it also handles for me).

For someone who needs a GUI to do stuff, linux is good. I manage
4 (5 including my machine) FreeBSD machines remotely without
using X windows.

FreeBSD also has a single config file to change instead of many
different ones in Red Hat Linux (although Linux has a GUI
interface to configure every thing).

Just my $ 0.05 (adjusted for inflation) worth.
