One rather important point to bear in mind about matching colours in
image files to those in table cells, etc, is that -- well, they often don't
match. Even if the hex colour value is identical in each.
This discrepancy is more pronounced in some browser/OS combinations
than others, but in any case it is not uncommon. I've been caught a few
times -- a table cell will be set to, say, #FF0000, and a GIF file will have a
background set exactly the same... yet they'll render slightly differently.
One almost sure-fire solution is to use solid tiling GIFs to set the
background colour of your tables and/or pages, rather than specifying a
colour in the attribute of the tag in question. This will pretty much assure
an exact match between background colours ands the images placed over
them.
