I've got enough cruft on my shelves, and a ridiculous number of t-shirts. ;-)

If it's *that* big, send me the CDROM.

But I work for myself, so my day off is whenever I want it to be.

I don't want to talk to them. I want to *listen* to them, and if they
have published papers/FAQs/web sites/documents, I can do that from right here.

I have even *less* desire to talk to vendors. (And to be honest, I really
have little reason to: 99% of the software I use is open-source freeware,
and all of the hardware is used, so I don't really have anything to
talk to them *about*.)

Ah, now *that* is a redeeming feature, I agree. But I can do that
over the 'net too, and I've found that I have a much higher chance of
getting a techie instead of a salesdroid via email.

Sure, that can be useful. But I'm listening to them and talking to
them 24x7x52 anyway, so why should I get on a plane?

I dunno, maybe I just have more of a sense of community just from
the online experience, and don't feel the need to meet people in
person to feel part of the same entity. Or maybe I keep more distance
between my personal and professional lives -- which can be a problem
for people who work at home, I've found.

Or maybe my training as a curmudgeon is ahead of schedule. ;-)
