Yep, thanks to John and Guido for posting the solution so rapidly. (At
least, I hope it's the solution. I'll try it at my next Linux play
session next weekend :-) )
And thanks Mike for another piece in the great Unix computing puzzle.
Actually, I'm pretty proud of myself for figuring out what the problem
was. Only took 3 Sundays <g>.

Well, I took a look at vi and emacs...and vi seemed to have the shorter
learning curve. I'm sure I'll get into them both, though.

As I've said before, when my first DOS box arrived some 10 years ago, it
was delivered in a case without any operating system or software of any
kind. I plugged it in and it just kind of sat there looking at me.
Remember, I'm a writer/marketing person. I bought that box as an
electronic typewriter. Come a long way since then. I learned DOS well,
switched to Windows v1.0, hated it and threw it away, looked again at
v2, hated it and threw it away, same with windows 3 until I discovered
Norton Desktop, which I used until I finally converted to '95 back in
'96 or so. But I'd still rather have a mac for work.
Linux takes me right back to those first DOS days, and the pleasure of
discovery. It makes computers fun again, instead of just a tool.
