One thing to remember: pico is notorious for inserting carriage returns
whenever lines get what it thinks are too long...a benefit when using
it to write mail, but devastating on some system files...using the -w
switch disables this practice; if you use it regularly, put an alias
in your .profile file (or whatever startup file you use).
