Hi guys,
We just came across a nasty little "bait and switch" scam run by
an outift called InterGalaxy.com.
What they are doing is taking lots of home pages from legit sites
(including ours, which is how we discovered this), sticking them
into a no frames section on their pages (to conceal them so you'll
probably only notice it if you view the Document Source) and then
submitting umpteen hundred so-called index pages to the search
engines.
This means that their link comes up when anything is searched for
that exists on the legit home pages (in our case for our TCompress
software). When you follow the link, you come up with
InterGalaxy's home page and offering of hosting services.
We only found out because this unfamiliar link came up in a
TCompress search:
http://www.cuisines.com/webhosting615.html
We told them that they were breaching our copyright by this
deception and demanded they remove our home page material from
their site. They have complied -- that is, we're not in the document
source for that link anymore, but some poor outfit in India is now
there.
I don't know if these guys are deliberately picking on businesses
outside the US or if that's just coincidence, but I would really
appreciate it if you could circulate this info (and check your own
links!!) to make sure that as many people start complaining to and
about these jerks as soon as possible.

Don't bother if it's a chargeable number, but I figure the more noise
made, the better.
These "Web professionals" are going to give the rest of us a bad
name. (Quite apart from the fact that they can't spell "sign" on their
home page or that their copyright notice is 1996....)
Tell your favourite search engines about this -- as it does nothing
for their credibility either!
I hope we can achieve some useful consumer action here, and
advance thanks to anyone who makes the effort.
