Well I did say "starting at" ;-) There is a need out there for small deployments, not every app is a large spanning multiuser app. I personally use it to compliment our business' internal servers.
For larger apps you are correct, but you could either go with a larger "slice" which gets expensive or follow one of the solutions already listed.
