  I don't have an opinion on languages, but your following sentence
  isn't recognizing the goals of the requirements.  The wiki component
  must be a well-behaved component in a larger application.  MediaWiki
  is not designed to be a well-behaved component--it is designed to be a
  site.  Projects have fallen mightily trying to make it otherwise...
