Subject: VALIDATION or Certification

I am a bit disturbed by the very tone of this message.  I definitely do not want to engage in any debate over here except summarize my analysis.  I hope this email thread is not continued in its present form.

1. Stabs have been taken in one way or another at X12, Patrice, the panel discussion, the panelists, competitors by name, translator companies and how only your organization is the only one in the world that gets it.

2. It is ironical that one hand you are troubled by the "perceived" commercial overtones of the presentation  and then you have put out on the listserver a 10 page commerical of their organization (inspite of making comments like "i do not want to make this email a sales pitch").   It would have been a lot better just to summarize your views on certification.

3. Your entire analysis is based on the fact that your organization wants to capture some of the heatlhcare related business rules/scenarios that you can apply in your analysis of HIPAA data.  Looks like, you are interested in talking about "a possible" next step in the HIPAA Enablement process that can come after Testing & Certification, as defined by the WEDI white paper (At Edifecs we call it Business Certification - perhaps WEDI can do a white paper on Business Certification - i would extend an invitation to co-author it with you).  The objective is not achieved by continuing to confuse the whole issue around which the panel discussion was focused on and what the WEDI white paper is focussed on.  To go on a public listserver publicizing your commercial message and then say everything else is crap is not your perogative.

4. A number of assertions made in the email are flat out wrong but again debating about it like it has been done, does not further the interests of this listserver.  So i shall not go into details here.  However, we would come back to engage in separate discussions around the concepts of community based enablement, business rules validation & certification, and other areas you touched upon - but shall do so within the framework of the listserver. Rules based decision making is not rocket science - it is tried, tested and a mature technology in the market today.  And that will show how those ASSERTIONS ARE NOT VALID.  And as we do so, anyone will be welcome to get specific product related details from our web site or by calling us.

5. If someone is (i) positioning their company on Certification and (ii) trying to position or move the WEDI white paper to their concept of certification and (iii) go on record making assertions on patenting certification and the process - well you get it - i do not have to spell it out.

6. The panel discussion went a long way towards clearing up the muddy waters around testing & certifying HIPAA transactions. So i would say, Patrice and Mike - it was a job very well done. I say lets have more of them.  There must be at least 30+ attendees that met me personally that day who applauded the content and discussions of that session. .The panel discussion was one of the best attended and best received sessions of the conference.  The attendess can make their own conclusions as to the commercialization of the presentation(s) - commercialized presentations are in general hardly ever well received by any audience.

The WEDI Testing & Certification white paper is about testing and performing that testing using a third party product or service (Certification).  "Testing & Certification" per those rules are to be validated against what is stated in the implementation guidelines (including the HIPAA rules).  The HIPAA implementation guidelines do not capture or state the business rules you so passionately talk about.  More on this later in a separate discussion thread.

Edifecs has no intention in furthering or participating in this thread in its current form.

We off course would and be glad to participate in any discussions centered around any HIPAA related concepts and issues.   And yes we would like to and will do so soon, discuss business rules/ scenarios and validation based on such rules.

thanks
sunny
