I've read most of this thread...
We have a Liebert UPS system and we monitor our Liebert SiteNet Integrator
for temperature/humidity/power failure/water detectors.
Since it has an IP address and MIBs, monitoring the temperature (with
sensors for the computer room and UPS battery cabinets) and humidity is
pretty straightforward in WUG.
As for the power failures / water detectors, the dry contacts work like a
charm!
So....depending on what kind of UPS you're using, there are always
cards/monitoring boxes that can help achieve your goals! ;-)

You can use the SNMP/Web card and the Temp/Humid card in their small single
card expansion boxes. One box daisy chains to the other. However, you will
need to purchase an AC Adapter (wall wart) for each expansion chassis. We
have ours connected to UPS', however I have tested them seperately. Our
configuration on the Temp/humid card also has a smoke alarm (silent)
attached, and then the SNMP/Web card will send a trap to my NMS and I will
get paged.
The Model Number of the single slot chassis is AP9600 ($50) And if you
want to use the APC AC Adapter the Model number is AP9505 ($15).
The Temperature accuracy is pretty good, the humidity sensor is not. We
have a department that works with NOAA and they said that for a good
humidity sensor, you would have to spend a lot more money. APC states on
their web site that it has a 15% error.
I went with this alternative because it monitors power outages, the UPS',
Temperature is our HVAC goes out, Smoke, etc. All in all I spent $550 for
this monitoring set up, which is cheap compared to the cost of replacing
$500,000 worth of computers and communications equipment just in our
computer room. I hope to have them in every closet.
You can also use it with door contacts and monitor when doors are opened or
closed. The Temp/Humid card has 4 sets on sensor contacts.

Dan, have you got a url that gives more information? I found the page at
APC
that has it associated with the smart card that goes into the ups. Looking
for
accuracy figures on the temp/humidity, security on the http and telnet and
what the puppy looks like. I take it this is the box listed at $399?
Thanks
