One way is to set up multiple icons for the object depending on the type of response
you desire. For each object, setup the type of alert you would like to trigger for
the "service" that is monitored for that particular object instance. For example, if
you had a web server, two services that could be monitored are icmp and http. In this
example,
you could set up a device object only monitoring the icmp. The alert for an icmp down
could be a pager or beeper alert. The example for the http device object you could
set up an email alert or something. So when the http goes down, the icmp object may
remain green and not trigger an alert. There may be a better way, but this seems to
be easier.

I'm currently evaluating Whats Up Gold and trying to figure out how other
people have handled alerts. I would like to have the system setup to send
different types of notifications depending on the circumstances of the
alert. For instance, I want to receive a page if a system is down, but I
only want a screen pop if the processor is pegged. Same server but different
situations which warrent different respones. How does everyone else handle
this? Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is one of the deciding
        factors in my decision. Thanks.
