I have been told the same thing at Wikia by everyone who has given an opinion, but it will help if I can say "I asked on the mailing list and it was unanimous", so: does everyone agree that automatic insertion (i.e., by Mediawiki software) of hard spaces into 'p. 1', '10 AD', and other places where every newspaper and magazine would also protect against wrapping, is preferable to inserting any special markup by hand, and especially preferable to a big campaign to try to "educate" everyone on the issue? Some of you have said that you feel strongly that you would prefer not to see markup that you have to explain to newbies if it can be done invisibly. And of course, it would save everyone a lot of time, and it would guarantee that the lines wrap correctly in these cases. It seems like a slam dunk to me, but there are some editors who are, shall we say, resistant. - Dan
Two questions: * Is that scheme of (not) wrapping a universal standard? (I know Strunk and White is not the right resource, but is it documented in some similar resource--I ask because I've never seen it.) * If an editor needs to override that scheme, is there a means to do so?
